The University of New England (socialwork) gives us this infographic on foster care within the United States and especially as it relates to adoption. Currently there are more than 100,000 children in foster care who are waiting to be adopted.
The reason is, the favorability towards foster care adoption has decreased in the last decade. Many Americans also worry that children in foster care and there because they have behavior or self-control issues and about half of Americans believe that foster care is full of juvenile delinquents. Another problem is that there is a big belief that foster care adoption is extremely expensive, even though it isn’t. In fact, the typical cost of foster care adoption is less than $2500.
