A strong support network of family and friends is one of the most important assets that an addict beginning their recovery can have. Strong supporters, or allies, can help an addict through the dark times of doubt, shame, and guilt and into a new and fulfilling life of freedom. On the other hand, there are people in a recovering addict's life who might wind up doing all the wrong things – excessive negativity can drag a recovery down and even bring on a relapse. For the loved ones in our lives who are struggling with addiction, the choice between being an ally or an anchor should be clear – we want to help. This infographic provides a simple list of “Do”s and “Don't”s that can be used to guide us in being a recovering addict's shoulder to lean on. Additionally, the second half of this graphic shines a spotlight on important elements of recovery like trigger awareness, social stigmas against addiction, and self-care. Together, as a community, we can overcome addiction.
