Here is a short infographic on which characteristics make for a successful public policy. After a review of what a public policy is, it lists the ten most important US public policy issues: economy, jobs, budget, terrorism, Social Security, education, Medicare, health costs, poverty, and crime. It goes on to explain a nine step process to create a strong public policy. If a policy has four characteristics (solves problems, serves justice, supports democratic institutions and processes, and encourages an active citizenship), it can be deemed a strong policy. Then it calls on us to ask if the policy is good or not by answering four questions: Does the policy solve the problem? Does the policy use government? Is the policy constitutional? Is the policy realistic? After reviewing these facts and questions, we can decide for ourselves if a public policy is good, and if it follows those nine steps, it can be deemed as a good, successful public policy.
