ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) is a Sunni jihadist militant group, currently operating with an objective of creating the caliphate. A caliphate is an Islam dominated area, led by an Islamic leader, also known as the Khalifa.
The story of ISIS starts long back in the year 1999, when a Jordanian radical by the name of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi founded the ISIS group. For many years, ISIS was just a small terrorist group operating in the lawless & remote areas of Iraq.
